Summary
Understanding the Need
This project began with the client’s need for an updated website. Originally made in 2008, The site was developed in a time before the need for mobile-responsiveness was understood. It needed a new look that would be visually engaging on both desktop and mobile. Most important;y, the site needed to be easy for customers to navigate.
Clearing up the Confusion
One major concern for the site was coming up with a better method to sort the content of the site. The site had eight parent-level menu options, many of which were unnecessary to the business’s current needs. We knew a better solution was needed, and that led to us inviting the client in for an information architecture meeting. During our meeting, we were able to come up with a solution that better organized the site content while only having three parent-level menu options.
Process & Challenges
Beginning the Design and Development Cycle
With the new plan laid out, we started the design and development process of the website. I coordinated with my content developer to plan a work sprint for the site and we began immediately. The client supplied us with a few design elements to work into their site as well.
Adjusting to New Requirements Mid-Project
Near the middle of the development cycle, the client excitedly informed us that they had acquired a second company. Not wanting the website to not become obsolete when the merger was complete, we discussed options with the client. We decided to set the site up in a way that it could be easily updated with new branding information after the merger completed.
Results
Website Launch
The site was launched successfully and NWDDI is very pleased with it. We were glad to help present the business in a way that connects them with their clients, and give the site the mobile-responsiveness that it needed.
